We have adhered to the traditional, most familiar definitions. Under this system all the words in the English language can be grouped, according to the work they do, into eight classes. These are the Parts of Speech..

1 - adhere يلتزم يتقيد بـ

2 - traditional تقليدي

3 - familiar مألوف

4 - definition تعريف

5 - system نظام

6 - group - ed يصنف

7 - according to بحسب , طبقاً لـ و وفقاً لـ

8 - class صنف , نوع

9 - part جزء ، قسم

10 - speech كلام

They are

1 - Nouns : names of noun (n.)اسم

a - people : boy , girl

b - animals : cat , dog

c - things : pen , book

d - places : house , room

2 - Pronouns : words used instead of nouns : Pronoun (pron.) ضمير

I , who , that , himself , someone .

3 - Adjectives : words that qualify a noun : adjective (adj.) صفة

a bad egg , a blue dress

qualify يصف

1 , 2 , 3 = the noun group

4 - Verb : words expressing the idea of action or being : verb (v.) فعل

eat , do

express : يعبر

idea : فكرة

action : عمل

5 - Adverbs : words added to a verb : adverb (adv.) ظرف

quickly , now , ago .

add : يضيف

4 , 5 = the verb group

6 - Prepositions : words used with nouns or pronouns : prepositions (prep.) حرف جر

to , by , near

7 - Conjunctions : words joining words , phrases Conjunction (conj.) حرف عطف

or sentences : and , but

phrase : عبارة , تعبيرة

join : يربط

8 - Interjections : words expressing a sudden feeling or emotion : Interjections(interj.)التعجب

Oh ! , Ah ! . صيغة تعجب ، صوت تعجب sudden : مفاجئ

emotion : انفعال ، احساس ، عاطفة

6 , 7 = joining words .

Note : Interjections do not enter into the syntactical construction of the sentence .

syntactical : تركيبي ، بنائي ، إعرابي

construction : بناء ، بنية ، تركيب
